ART LESSONS WITH RUTH BUNNEWELL
ART LESSONS AT THE GALLERY NORFOLK
My work is represented by The gallery Norfolk, and my lessons here specialise in working with oil paints predominantly, but also with pastels, drawing, sketching, and the use of colour, and composition. The lessons are informal yet structured, a mix of teaching skills and techniques, whilst not forgetting one of the essentials, which is for me the enjoyment that comes from the whole process of producing art work. I bring in my home made cake, and we have coffee and tea, so that the lesson doesn't feel too 'formal'. ( I ran a cake making business for many years supplying homemade cakes to various Norwich cafes...so I make an awesome cake! ) My aim is create a session that is informative and encouraging.
Each session lasts for a minimum of 2 and a half hours, including time for a break and having coffee/tea and cake. All necessary basic equipment is supplied, although you'd be more than welcome to bring any of your own equipment.
The lessons are student centred; nothing is set in stone as to what each lesson entails; rather it would be tailored to your needs. For example, if you want to focus on landscapes, or still life, or whether you want to learn a specific technique etc...the lesson would be tailored to you personally.
MY ETHOS:
Producing artwork, and being creative is more than just producing an end product. It is about learning to value your own creativity, your own judgement about what is 'good Art', and becoming confident in one's own abilities. For children, I truly believe it is essential to capture the natural enjoyment that comes from the act of 'producing' something. It can instill a life-long confidence that comes from valuing one's own opinions; Art is truly something that is completely subjective.
This is incredibly important to me; Throughout my life, and especially as a child, I have had issues with extreme shyness, anxiety, and OCD. A lot of the confidence that I have found in order to deal with these issues has come from finding an 'inner' confidence, and this has been found via the sentiments expressed in the above paragraph.
I am currently Art ambassador for year 10 Art students (first year of GCSE) at Flegg High school in Norfok. This involves bringing my ideas, experience, and enthusiasm into the classroom, working with the students, in their first year of GCSE art classes, alongside their teacher. I also do one on one mentoring here.
